Harriet Lawton
Violin
Harriet first began playing violin at the age of two, taught by Mrs Sian Cobb in Monmouth. She attended the Royal College of Music Junior Department from 2009 until 2012 where she received the Drapers Company Music Award. During this period she also won the Gwent Young Musician of the Year Senior Prize and was awarded the ABRSM Gwent Foundation award for the highest Grade 8 mark for violin.
Harriet was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales (NYOW) for five years and was honoured to be appointed principal 2nd violin in 2012. A particular highlight of her time with the NYOW was performing at the Royal Albert Hall in the BBC Proms 2012 as part of a collaboration with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
In 2011, Harriet successfully auditioned for an undergraduate course at Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance and has been studying under the tutelage of Prof. Ofer Falk. She was awarded the Elsie Skellern Scholarship and the TCL Scholarship, and has also led the Trinity Laban Symphony Orchestra and Trinity Laban Sinfonia on several occasions
Following a successful audition earlier this year, Harriet will begin her postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music in September.
Harriet is very grateful to The Starmer Jones Music Trust Fund and The Roger Edwards Educational Trust for their generosity in supporting her musical education.
